I SURVIVED!!!

Holy cow! I actually made it through...prom season that is.

Photobucket

April is by far the WORST month in my alterations room. During this time we are working to get all of our spring brides ready and to top it off we have prom season. Most proms generally fall in April. These two things combined create the perfect storm. Our room turns into chaos almost overnight. While we do have some who plan ahead most prom shopping is actually done last minute. This year we did a record number of prom dresses. I have spent the last 5 weeks scrambling to get everything done on time and just trying to make it through the day. Sometimes sewing right up until 30 minutes before their fitting.

One of the reasons I hate prom so much is because the teenagers are SO RUDE! I am certain I never acted like this at 17. I am always in shock at how rude these girls are not only to us but to their mothers as well. This season we actually had a mother/daughter get into a fight right in the middle of a fitting.

90% of these girls want some slutty dress and then the moms get mad at us because we can't find a way to keep their daughter's boobs inside 4" of fabric. Newsflash moms, if the dress isn't appropriate before alterations, it's not going to be afterwards! Not to mention they are always in awe that they actually have to pay for alterations and they obsess over every stinking bead. There are 5 million beads on your dress no one is going to miss that one!!

There are always a few prom girls who come alone to their fitting and we spend time with them asking if it fits well and if they are happy. It never fails we will have half a dozen girls each season who come alone, tell us its fine and then go home and complain to mommy. Then their mother calls and yells at us! Same thing every year!

In the end we made it, we came out on the other side. None of my staff quit this year, so that's a plus. With better planning we did more dresses than ever before and managed to take our SUPER busy time to only 5 weeks instead of 8. We will still have a couple more busy weeks but we are over the hump and on the downhill slide! Thank you Jesus! For a minute I didn't think I would make it through. I have put together a rockin' staff this year and I wouldn't have made it without them. (Awesome job Deb, Jordan, Gloria, Ohnmar and Donna!)

The really good news only 3 weeks till vacation!

Fireworks Finale

Sunday night the Cherry Blossom Festival had a fireworks finale at the local college. Heath and I decided to go and take the dogs with us. The weather was good but, it was a little on the cold side. We spent the late afternoon laying on a blanket eating and enjoying the music. Chic-fil-a had their pink cow there walking around. The dogs were not too keen on him the first few times but finally he made friends they let him give them a rub. Jack spent most of his time barking at other dogs and Harley looked so happy. He loves to get out, he is very social. Once it got dark we wrapped up in our blanket. The first firework that went off scared the dogs to death the each took off in a different directions. Thank goodness they were both on leashes. Jackson kept barking at them, everyone was laughing at him. Poor little guy was shaking. When the finale went off, he was scrambling trying to get away. I think it is safe to say he doesn't like fireworks. Harley didn't like them either but, he was just hiding behind us trying not to look. When we finally got back in the car Jackson let out the biggest sigh, he was so stressed out. It was really funny though. I am not sure if we will take them again next year!

Weekend with the Girls

*disclaimer - this is a long post...but I had alot to write about*
I finally have a little time to sit down and write about last weekend. Mom, Kadee, Alexis and Alissa came to Georgia for a visit. We had so much fun while they were here, plus while they were visiting it was also time for the Cherry Blossom Festival. Here is the breakdown of their visit.

Thursday: They got in about 7:00 pm, we just grabbed something to eat and headed back home. The girls were fascinated by my garden tub and couldn't wait to get in and take a bath, who knew? After that Lexi was anxious to teach Uncle Heath how to play the Wii

Friday: We got up and went to get some lunch, then ran by Walmart to grab a few things. Then we met my mother-in-law and sister-in-law and my Georgia nieces at Monkey Joe's so the girls could play together. (Lexi had visited me last year and remembered them, she couldn't wait to see them again.) Monkey Joe's is really just a big open space with all those big blow up things for kids to play on and they have a place for the adults to sit and watch. The girls loved it. Ashlynn and Alyssa came home with my mother-in-law to spend the night so they could play more. By Friday night the girls were exhausted. Later that night Heath, Kadee and I played some Wii golf and we got Heath addicted. Heath also taught 3yr old Alissa the love catch phrase "In yo face!" Which she felt the need to use quite frequently of the next few days.

Saturday: I had to work for a little while in the morning. They spent the morning playing outside and enjoying the amazing weather. After I got home we got ready and headed to the Balloon Glow, one of the most popular Cherry Blossom Events. If you have never been to a balloon glow it is very pretty. They line up hot air balloons at dusk and light them at various intervals, making for a beautiful light show. We were really hungry when we left, and couldn't wait to get home to eat. One of my favorite Alissa lines of the weekend was that night....she said "My tummy's in my froat" She was trying to tell us she was STARVING! So funny!

Sunday: We spent the majority of the day at the Cherry Blossom Festival. The weather was so amazing. Heath came with us for a little while before he had to go to work. We ate great food, heard some great music, watched the sea lion show, and the girls rode some rides. Yes, we wore pink. Oh, I almost forgot, we had pink Margaritas! Yum! That night we just relaxed at the house and I cooked dinner. After dinner I made Chocolate Chip Bread Pudding, with the girls help of course. Let me just say this is an AMAZING dessert. Email me if you want the recipe.

Monday: It was time for them to head home so we drove them to Atlanta but they didn't have to leave until late that night. So, we went in time to visit the Georgia Aquarium. The aquarium was awesome. I cannot even begin to describe how nice it is. We saw so many different fish and other water based creatures. When we left there we took a short trip through the World of Coca Cola and then finished up the Atlanta experience with a stop a The Varsity, an Atlanta must! We had chili dogs, fries, onion rings and ice cream. I wish I could let you taste just how good one of these chili dogs is. If you are ever in Atlanta you must stop here!!! We dropped them off at the airport and then headed back home. I was sad to see them go but we had an amazing time while they were here!

Who talks Anymore?!?

I have alot to post about but this was so funny it deserved its own post.

As many of you know last weekend Mom, Kadee and the girls came to visit. They brought their Nintendo Wii. Friday night some of Heath's family was over and we were gearing up to play the Wii. Somehow, a few seconds in to them playing, I flipped a light switch and shorted out the Wii, We couldn't get it to come back on. Upon realizing that they weren't going to be able to play 6 yr. Lexi says in a loud voice..."That's great what are we gonna do now, sit around and talk to each other?!?"

Ahh, our future....

Texas Trip and Harley

So before I begin with my trip details, many of you have asked about Harley.
He is doing great, he had a large tumor removed from the soft pallet of his mouth. He had another one removed from the same place about a year and a half ago. He feels so much better now and is back to his old self. I was so worried about him, but Heath took great care of him while I was gone.

Let me just start by saying...There's no place like Home!
Dallas Tx Pictures, Images and Photos
It has been over a year since I have been home and it was long overdue. I was home is past weekend and it was great. I got in late Thursday night, around midnight. So pretty much all I did was go home and go to sleep. On Friday my sister-in-law came over and we went for lunch and then surprised Lexi at school. She was super anxious to teach me how to play the Wii. Later that night we went to Brandon and Ashlie's house for dinner and more Wii. It was so much fun for us all to be together. Saturday, Mom, Brooke and my aunt and I went to Dallas to all the wholesale shops and man did we shop. We got jewelry, purses, perfume, shirts....Alot. It was super fun. Later that night we just hung out at home and Brooke did all of our hair. Its a good thing she likes doing it, she spends a large portion of her time when she is at home doing hair. Sunday we went to church and then to Mexican Inn! I love to go there when I am home, it is some of the best Mexican food ever. Heath called me Sunday afternoon to tell me it was SNOWING in Georgia. It has snowed twice here in 7 years I can't believe I missed it. Sunday evening we went to my aunt's house and visited with family and ate...ALOT!Then later that night Brooke and I had a mini Wii golf tournament. Finally on Monday Ashlie came back over and all the girls went to see Confessions of a Shopaholic. I was such a cute movie, and great girl time. I was sad to go when I left, as usual, but I was anxious to get back and see Heath and to check on Harley. I love to have a window seat when I leave TX. I love to look out over the city as I leave. This time when I left the sun was setting and the view was gorgeous...take a look.
Photobucket Texas always holds a special place in my heart. It's like no other place on earth and it always feels good to go home!

Concert

Last night we headed to Atlanta for a night out with Clint and Cindy. We had gotten tickets to see Blake Shelton in concert at Wild Bill's. When Heath told me we were going I though, hmmm...Blake Shelton, OK this might be fun, I like some of his songs. I was more excited about the fact that Heath and I might actually get to dance, it has been well over a year and half since we have been dancing, maybe longer. So I was happy to go. It turned out to be one of the best concerts I have ever been to.

We got there around 9:30 and the line was wrapped around the building just to get in and it was SOOO COLD! Thankfully, the line moved fast. Before long we were in, then we had to find our reserved table. We had really good seats but, when we got there, there were some women at our table. We had to get a bouncer to make them move and they were not happy about it. The place was packed, there was NO CHANCE of getting a dance in!

I had forgotten how long it has been since I have been in a bar. Brought back old memories. I forgot that a little cleavage is an open invitation to get hit on, beer tastes better under neon lights, and that the best way to close down a bar is with ACDC's "You Shook Me All Night Long". Even though we didn't get to dance Heath and I had so much fun.

The concert was awesome. Of course, he sang his most popular songs but also did some 80's country, which we LOVE. Some of the 80's stuff he sang was; Tight Fittin' Jeans, I Love A Rainy Night, Drivin' My Life Away...he even sang Centerfold. (who doesn't love that!) I sang and yelled so loud my throat was sore today. That was the most fun we have had in awhile.

We didn't get home until 3:15 this morning and I had to get up at 8:00 for work. I think I still had buzz when I got up, lol. I am super tired now so I think I will take a nap. If you ever get the chance to see him in concert you should go, it worth it.

WWJD about blueberries!

Just another normal conversation between the two of us...

We had just made a Creme' Brulee and were getting ready to eat it...

Heath: I'm gonna put blueberries on the creme brulee
Britt: No! Dont! There aren't many left and I want them for my breakfast
H:What? Don't be greedy with the blueberries
B: I'm not greedy but there aren't many left and I want them for my cerel
H: You know what Jesus says about being greedy
B: Jesus didn't say anything about being greedy
H: Yes he did.....He's against it!

We split the blueberries in half, so we were both happy!
